North Devon Target Team exists to support the provision target activities for members of North Devon Scouting. These activities include; Archery, Air-rifle and Tomahawks.
In addition, we run courses for Scout Archery Instructors in line with the TSA adventurous activities permit scheme and Tomahawk Throwing Instructors courses.
We have a partnership agreement with Braunton Target Shooting Club which allows us to use their facilities. In addition. we are able to use the 20m Archery range and a 10m Air-riflr range at the Collard Bridge Scout Campsite. Where we can provide activities for both local and visiting Scout groups.
Members provide instruction courses for users of the Collard Bridge Scout Camp site and run Scout Sundays once a month for Scouts from North Devon to develop their skills.
Target sports require concentration, consistency, strength, balance, and active listening. The sessions can be highly rewarding, and great achievement from a bullseye, a successful thunk, or a well timed riposte.
Scouts have been shooting since 1911 when the Duke of Connought donated a trophy to be shot for by scout teams. This shield is still shot for by Scouts a 100 years later at the National Scout Rifle Championships hosted by the NSRA at Bisley.
In recent years, North Devon Scouts have been successful, winning several individual national titles and the 3P shield for the last three years. The 1st North Devon Scout Group won the Junior Connought Shield in 2009.
